Balsam Lake Lodge - Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Balsam Lake Lodge - Restaurant feels like drifting into a quietly cherished lakeside retreat, where the pace slows just enough to soak in the gentle rhythm of Northern Wisconsin’s lake life. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, a blend of rustic charm and thoughtful comfort tucked along the shimmering edge of the water. Whether you find yourself settling onto the back porch as the sun melts into the horizon or inside amid a clean, thoughtfully arranged space, the mood is calm and unhurried—perfect for both relaxed conversations and moments of personal reflection.
This is a place where familiar American dishes gain a distinct sense of place, echoing the surrounding landscape through fresh, approachable flavors. The menu shifts gently with the seasons, offering a curated balance of hearty favorites and creative twists, inviting you to savor everything from comforting prime rib tacos to crisp, lively salad bowls. Shared plates, like buffalo Brussels sprouts or a jumbo salted pretzel, encourage an easygoing, convivial dining rhythm, while thoughtful drinks—from a carefully crafted Bloody Mary to an Irish coffee—round out the experience with a touch of warmth and indulgence.
What stands quietly at the heart of Balsam Lake Lodge is a genuine sense of care—felt deeply in the unpretentious service and the subtle attentiveness woven throughout every visit. It’s the kind of spot where hospitality feels like a natural extension of the place itself, with staff who make you feel seen without ever overwhelming the relaxed lakefront vibe.
Visiting here is as much about the moments shared outside the kitchen as those on the plate. Whether you’re enjoying a cozy meal after a day spent on the water or easing into a weekend with friends, the restaurant offers a lived-in comfort, like a favorite cabin where stories unfold and time slows just enough. This is not just dining; it’s a small, quiet celebration of place and season—an invitation to pause, connect, and return to what matters.

I feel the restaurant at Balsam Lake Lodge is highly under-rated. We ate there on a Monday night, a night when it's often hard to find any open restaurant at all, and loved everything about the place. The restaurant itself is clean and beautiful and in a perfect location with a great lake view. We out outside on the well landscaped back porch overlooking the lake at sunset. Our waitress was fast, friendly, and very helpful. Then there is the food... wonderful! We ordered the walleye rice cakes and meat loaf entrees. Not only did both dinners look delicious (i.e., great presentation), they both tasted out-of-this-world good. To top things off, the final bill was considerably lower than we're used to paying for dinners of far less quality and quantity. If we're ever in the Balsam Lake area again, this restaurant will definitely be on our bucket list.

The Lodge is a beautiful place to enjoy Northern Wisconsin lake life. The food can be a little uneven, but service is always friendly and I like that they try to have new items on the menu regularly. Especially recommend the fish sandwich.

We had such a great experience at Balsam Lake Lodge & Restaurant! The food was delicious — everything tasted fresh and homemade, and the menu had something for everyone in our group. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with that perfect Northwoods lakefront vibe. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and you can really tell they care about making sure guests feel at home. It’s such a nice spot to enjoy a meal by the lake, whether you’re coming in by car or boat. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in the area. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great place to eat on Balsam Lake!

Came to Balsam Lake Lodge for a nice meal and drinks with my friends. Before our meal we decided to rent one of the pontoons and had a great experience! The smash burgers were phenomenal, but our server, Lauren M. Was fantastic, she made us feel welcomed and even convinced me to try one of the desserts-No crumb was left. 10/10 experience, we will be coming back.

My wife Diana did some searching for a getaway with some good friends. We ended up going to Balsam Lake Resort for 3 nights and it was fantastic! Our room had a wonderful view of the lake and we rented one of their pontoons and it looked and ran like brand new! Courtney was the manager and she was super nice, professinal! We are already talking about going back up there next summer!
